Omega MSX2+
Custom Omega MSX2+ build, PCB designed by skiselev with a unique casing. The enclosure is a combination of hand cut/drilled plates and 3D printed parts. This project was completed May of 2023.
1. Finished First
A look at the completed project first. Designing then assembling the enclosure might have taken a little longer than assembling the PCB itself.
2. Bare Boards
The Omega build uses a handful of vintage original chips along with a majority of new parts, giving this computer an edge in longevity against its older siblings. All new capacitors, resistors, sockets and mechanical keys.
This is a shot of the mainboard and keyboard during a testing stage prior to putting together the case.
3. Assembly
The top and bottom plates are sheets of textured ABS that were cut to shape to accommodate the keyboard..
4. Held Together
..While the side parts screw together to hold the sandwich of textured places and PCBs in place. The orange strip in the front has an indicator light for power.
5. Custom Controls
A very basic padhack to help tie in the aesthetic of the computer, chasing after some of the design sensibilities of gaudy 1980s electronics.
6. Parts Review
In CAD, the mainboard was roughly modeled to help keep track of spacing for the parts that were intended to surround it. A logo faceplate was designed and added a little later.
